General Tips for Las Vegas

  1. Do not keep all of your money and credit cards on you. Whilst crime is unlikely you may well get distracted and put your wallet down and forget about it

  2. Keep your passport on you at all times. You may well be ID'd even if you look considerably older than 21 but you never know. I am 31 and still got ID'd last year. If you have a win over $2000 you are required to show valid photo ID before you will be paid. You will also need your Passport to enable you to join the slot clubs.

  3. If you need any assistance, from first aid, to help finding a lost child to simple directions ask the security guards. These guys run the show and do everything; they were the people who sorted out my laundry when it got damaged at the dry cleaners. With the exception of the Bellagio all of the security guards I have met have been very friendly and very helpful.

  4. In each casino arrange a time and a meeting point should you get split up. Make it somewhere easily recognisable like the cage or a large attraction. It is easy to get split up in the crowds and very easy to get disorientated. There is no point in arranging to meet by a certain bank of machines, as there may be several of these or similar ones at several locations within the casino. It is a good idea when you enter the casino to get your bearings they are big and you will get lost often looking at the layout of the ceiling can help you get your find your way don't ask me why it just does.

  5. Don't order from room service. Not only is this a very expensive way to eat/drink but due to the size of the casinos the food is often not very warm by the time it arrives to you.

  6. Don't leave your watch in the hotel room. There are no clocks in the casinos, no outside windows and no natural light. If you have not got a watch on you will easily lose track of the time. Oxygen is pumped in to the Casinos to keep you awake so your body clock will be completely thrown.

  7. Don't wear football shirts. These shirts are made out of polyester; this along with all of the electricity and carpets makes you into a massive static magnet. As soon as you touch a machine you will get a harmless but nasty little shock. Same probably applies to nylon stockings but seeing as I don't wear them I can't really comment.

  8. Hire a car. The casinos are spread out and further apart than they look and set back far off of the road. The busses, trolleys and various free forms of transport laid on by the casinos are slow. Car hire is cheap and driving in the US easy it also gives you the chance of some independent excursions and that really makes your holiday different.
